Bridging Science & Care
to Combat Myopia Worldwide

About the Myopia Society

Who We Are

The Myopia Society was established in 2021 by the late Professor Ramin Tadayoni to address one of the most pressing global health challenges of our time.

The Myopia Society unites clinicians, researchers, and industry partners to address the growing burden of myopia and its vision-threatening complications.

Mission & vision

Our mission is built on three pillars:

Integration

Merging fundamental science, clinical medicine, and industrial innovation into a unified, coordinated response to the myopia epidemic.

Collaboration

Providing a platform for global experts to share data, coordinate research efforts, and build international consensus on management protocols.

Education

Translating scientific progress into medical education resources and public health tools to optimise patient care pathways worldwide.

Core activities

By providing a robust infrastructure and a collaborative platform, the Society coordinates exchanges between professionals dedicated to studying myopia and its complications. Our core activities include:

Consensus & meetings

Annual meetings and consensus sessions focused on cutting-edge myopia research and treatment standards.

Medical education

Continuous medical training, webinars, and pedagogical materials for healthcare professionals and the public.

Research support

Study grants and travel fellowships supporting clinical and experimental research programs in myopia.

Patient care

Enhancing care pathways for patients suffering from myopia and its associated risks, including macular disease.

Board of Directors

The Society was established by four founding members who serve as the initial Board of Directors:

President

Prof. Kyoko Ohno-Matsui

(Japan)

Prof. Kyoko Ohno-Matsui is Professor and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at the Institute of Science Tokyo (IST), as well as Director of the IST Advanced Clinical Center for Myopia.

In Memoriam

Tribute to a Visionary

Professor
Ramin Tadayoni

(1970–2024)

"Innovation is only meaningful if it is shared and placed at the service of everyone’s vision."

The Myopia Society stands as a testament to the vision of Professor Ramin Tadayoni. Ramin was a unique leader who dedicated his career to improving the care of highly myopic patients.

In 2021, Professor Ramin Tadayoni founded the Myopia Society with a clear vision: myopia is not just a refractive error, but a complex disease requiring a unified global response.

A world-renowned clinician, brilliant researcher, and devoted mentor, Ramin was a master at building bridges between diverse fields. He recognized early on the necessity of a project that could match the scale of the impending myopia epidemic in Europe and globally. His efforts led to the creation of the French Myopia Institute, aiming to develop innovative therapies and limit the risk of blindness.

His legacy lives on through this society, which continues his work in transforming scientific discovery into concrete solutions for patients. Under the leadership of our Board, we remain committed to the excellence and humanity he championed.

Ramin was an inspiring mentor and scientist, his light continues to guide the Society as we carry his voice and mission forward.
